International day for the elimination of violence against women, 25th of November, 2024.

▪️International day for the elimination of violence against women.

In Greece, in the first ten months of 2024 alone, 15,571 women victims of domestic violence were recorded. This is a harsh reality that affects thousands of women every year, leaving them exposed to physical, psychological and social abuse.

For many women, violence leads to stigma. Forced to leave their homes to protect themselves and/or their children, they find themselves without support and shelter. This interaction between violence and stigma is often invisible, but needs to be highlighted and addressed.

In the research we conducted with Ierax Analytix, the results we saw on people’s perceptions of the link between domestic violence and homelessness are indicative of the lack of visibility in this context. Only 9% associate homelessness and domestic violence, while 30% disagree that people who have suffered domestic violence and live in crisis accommodation are considered homeless.

But based on the data and the numbers of victims, the picture shows great precariousness for thousands of women who, in their search for safety, are forced to leave their homes.

Change starts when we speak openly and join forces. No woman should feel alone in the struggle for safety and dignity.
