Ithaca’s Action in July: Support and Care in Athens
Every month at Ithaca is an opportunity to get even closer to people experiencing homelessness and to respond to their daily needs. In July, through the Pop-Up Village, our team continued its presence in Athens, offering access to basic services and a space where people could stand, talk, and ask for support for various needs.
Covering Basic Daily Needs
During the Pop Up Village event, beneficiaries had access to clean clothes and personal hygiene items, as well as products useful for daily life in the field. These may seem like small provisions, but when basic needs are not a given, even these can make a difference in a person’s day.
Services Beyond Immediate Needs
Ithaca’s presence at the Pop-Up Village is not limited to distributing items. Through psychosocial support, people have a safe space to talk about their concerns, express their needs and difficulties, and, together with our team’s professionals, explore next steps. This support aims to enhance their self-confidence, autonomy, and daily functioning.
At the same time, employment counseling supports them on their path to employment, through job searching, interview preparation, and highlighting their skills and potential. Thus, employment reintegration becomes another step towards greater autonomy and stability.
A Moment of Personal Care
An important part of the action was the opportunity for personal grooming. With the steady support of Dimitris from The Box Hair Studio, beneficiaries had the chance to get haircuts and grooming, in a moment that offered time for themselves, renewal, and, for many, a small but significant boost in self-confidence.
We Continue Together
For 10 years, Ithaca has been by the side of people facing homelessness, with a constant presence in the field and services that respond to the diverse needs of each person.
July was another month full of meetings, discussions, small moments of care, and steps towards a better tomorrow. Because change doesn’t always come through one big moment. It is built daily, through human connection, trust, and consistent presence.
