{"id":23824,"date":"2025-07-22T12:11:27","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T09:11:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ithacalaundry.gr\/?p=23824"},"modified":"2025-07-22T12:11:34","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T09:11:34","slug":"heatwave-and-homelessness-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ithacalaundry.gr\/en\/heatwave-and-homelessness-support\/","title":{"rendered":"Heatwave and Homelessness: When Summer Becomes a Survival Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Summer heat isn\u2019t just uncomfortable\u2014it can be deadly for those living on the streets. <strong>Heatwave and homelessness<\/strong> is a dangerous combination, as unhoused people lack access to basic protection: shelter, shade, hydration, and safe indoor spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How You Can Help<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you see someone experiencing homelessness during a heatwave you can make a difference by offering:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cold water bottles or thermos<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hats, light-colored clothing, sunscreen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fresh fruit like watermelon or oranges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electrolyte drinks or hydration powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Light snacks (nuts, crackers, bars)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wet wipes, portable fan, water spray bottle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Info about shaded areas or municipal shelters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emergency numbers (e.g. 112 or 166 in Greece)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cool Relief Centers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During heatwaves, cities open air-conditioned public buildings for vulnerable individuals. These safe zones offer temporary relief and rest.
